Acne Treatment With Acupuncture
Acupuncture is very effective at resolving acne. We take a two-pronged attack when treating it. First, we treat the local acne condition, be in on the face, neck, chest or back. Second, at the same time we treat the underlying trigger for the acne, which in most cases involves some level of internal toxic heat that has been trapped in the skin.
In Chinese medicine we always treat the root as well as the branch. With acne, the root is excess heat generated by the body. There are many reasons the body creates too much internal heat. For example, some people with a quick temper generate what we call Liver Fire or Heat in the Heart. Some women generate heat before their periods due to the hormone changes at that time of the month. This heat is often a result of what we call Liver Qi Stagnation. Each patient is evaluated when they first come in to determine the source of their excess heat.
Why does excess heat trigger acne? Well, simply stated, the excess heat inside the body is looking for a way out. It releases through pores in the skin, causing acne. We bring the body back into balance so it does not generate this excess heat. This is what we mean by treating the acne at its source. No toxic heat, no acne.
But we don’t stop there. We also treat locally where the acne resides, on the face, back or chest. Why? Because it brings faster relief and helps reduce scarring that may have developed over time. Treating locally brings a tremendous amount of qi and blood to the area, speeding up healing. It focuses the body’s healing powers on the places where acne is acting up, allowing for faster, deeper, more long lasting results.
Below is a list of the most common acne conditions, as defined by Western medicine. We treat all of these types of acne. Each type fits a different pattern imbalance within the Chinese medicine diagnostic spectrum. These conditions include:
· Pyoderma Faciale
When you come in for an acne resolution treatment, we will identify which type or types of acne you have, what your specific pattern imbalance is, and how to best resolve both the underlying imbalances and the surface conditions.
The treatments themselves are very relaxing. The needles are hair thin. You will hardly feel them. They are all single use and sterile. Many of our patients fall asleep on the treatment table. You will wake feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
If you have acne, try acupuncture. You’ll be pleased with the results.
