Parker Acupuncture Back Pain Treatment – 4 Most Common Conditions We Treat
1. Chronic soreness in the low back, often worse when you wake up in the morning. It typically gets better with a hot shower and movement, but hurts again by the end of the day.
2. Acute low back spasm. This condition strikes like lightening, causing severe pain and making you hunch over and walk funny. The pain is 10 out of 10.
3. Sciatica, also known as Piriformis Syndrome, starts in your hip or low back, and can travel down your leg all the way to your feet. It’s also a 10 out of 10 pain, often nerve-like and searing.
4. Chronic pain between the shoulder blades, often traveling to the tops of the shoulders and into the neck. Common among people who work in front of computers all day and students during final exams!
Parker Acupuncture Back Pain Treatment – How It Works
Chronic soreness in the low back
This condition is caused by Kidney Qi Deficiency and Liver Qi Stagnation. This Chinese medicine diagnosis responds great to acupuncture. The Kidneys nourish the lower back. When our Kidneys are weak, it is common to have low back soreness. Nourishing the Kidneys will strengthen our low backs from the inside out.
In addition, when we lie still during sleep, our Qi (energy) can become stagnant, causing stiffness. Acupuncture boosts the Liver’s ability to move the Qi, keeping our energy flowing smoothly in our bodies even when we sleep. This way we will wake up feeling good, without soreness, stiffness or pain.
Acute low back spasm
Acupuncture resolves acute low back spasms with a multi-prong approach. We release the muscles that are in spasm, with the goal of bring the tight muscles back to a normal, relaxed state. Just as importantly, we circulate the Qi and Blood in the affected area. Increased Qi and Blood circulation heals and strengthens the muscles to prevent a recurrence of the muscle spasm.
To move the Qi and Blood we nourish the Liver (which moves Qi) and we use acupuncture points that specifically increase the flow of blood in the body.
When treating sciatica, acupuncture addresses many factors all at the same time. First, we determine what is pressing up against the sciatic nerve. Once identified, we treat the offending muscle or disc. Relieving the pressure on the nerve eases the pain of sciatica. But we need to do more for complete healing. When the piriformis muscle spasms, it most often causes other muscles to spasm as well. They all need to be released and strengthened to prevent recurrence.
Treating sciatica always includes nourishing the Kidneys, smoothing Liver function and circulating the Qi and Blood. These are the root issues. If you treat the symptoms alone you are not restoring full health. This can all be done simultaneously with acupuncture.
Chronic Pain Between The Shoulder Blades
I used to attend a health fair at a huge government building. Thousands of people worked there, most of them behind a computer. And 95% of the people that came to my booth at the health fair complained of chronic pain behind their shoulder blades, upper back and neck. I gave mini-treatments at the fair, and just that short treatment brought them some relief.
Acupuncture excels at treating this type of chronic pain. We release tight muscles in the rhomboid muscles of the back, the trapezius muscles of the shoulders and the smaller neck muscles. At the same time we treat the body for stress, specifically so the patient’s stress does not lodge in the muscles. Typically, stress will cause muscle tension where there is muscle injury. Acupuncture enhances our ability to manage stress, resulting in less stress-related muscle tightness.
